EWR rise to the Three Peaks Challenge
19th June 2006
Following their return from the Himalayas, members of the Everest
West Ridge (EWR) expedition joined forces with members of the Carnegie
sport science support team to participate in the Three Peaks Challenge
in an effort to help raise money for the Rugby Football League (RFL)
Benevolent Fund.
Team EWR commented that to successfully climb the peaks of Ben Nevis,
Scafell Pike & Snowdon in 24 hours you require the team qualities
similar to that necessary upon expeditions.

bears the cold to return to Everest Base Camp
31st May 2006
Carnegie support team staff member John Allan, who made an early journey
back to Leeds Met from Nepal in April following a short period of
altitude sickness, has returned to Everest Base Camp to offer his
support to the Army expedition teams travelling back from the mountains.
John is joined in his quest by the Whartons Bear, from Whartons School
in Otley.
Summit
bid halted

The Army team has taken the decision not to make another attempt at
the summit due to the dangerous and life-threatening conditions of
the mountain.
Everest
summit teams announced
11th May 2006
The Army have announced the teams that will attempt to reach the summit
of Everest via the West Ridge and the teams that will play a key role
in the expedition's overall success.
Reflecting
on when Leeds Met Everest
2nd May 2006
On Friday 5 May 2006, students and staff at Leeds Met will have the
opportunity to share in the experiences of the Leeds Met staff, who
visited the Army team, prior to their summit attempts, at Everest Base
Camp. Joining the Leeds Met will be the leader of the Junior team, Graham
Carter, who will be reflecting on his own experiences of Everest.
Carnegie Support
team touch down at Base Camp 24th April
2006
The Carnegie Support team have arrived at Tilman's Base Camp.
Steve Cobley was the first team member to report back from the camp
with decriptions of 'clear sky and weather, and fantastic views of Everest'.

The Carnegie Support team, who recently departed from Headingley to
join the Everest West Ridge 2006 expedition team, have begun their journey
to Base Camp.

Leeds
Met Everest team pack up 7th April 2006
Members of the Leeds Met Everest West Ridge project team have been packing
in preparation for their visit to Everest Base Camp this month.
EWR Team Set Off 22nd March 2006
The British Army and the Territorial Army, supported by Leeds Met, set
off today to begin their attempt to be the first British Team to ascend
Mount Everest by one of its toughest and most dangerous routes, the
West Ridge.

The Directors of Dean Clough, Halifax, and Leeds Met jointly hosted an event at Dean Clough to promote Leeds Met’s partnership with the Everest West Ridge 2006 Expedition Team.
