. Academic research published in leading journals and as books, book chapters and refereed conference presentations and proceedings
. Bespoke, tailored commercial research for public, private and not-for-profit organisations
. Education and training, including the development and delivery of University and externally accredited programmes for senior practitioners
. Strategic consultancy, including structures and processes as well as public relations and communication at Board level
. Evaluation of campaigns and practices
. Mentoring and coaching (the latter is also an area of organisational expertise for Leeds Metropolitan)

Public Relations and Communications Subject Group
The Public Relations and Communications Subject Group is one of eight academic departments within the Faculty of Business and Law at Leeds Metropolitan University. The experienced, well-qualified team delivers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional levels in public relations and corporate communications.
The BA (Hons) Public Relations, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2010, is regarded as one of the leading courses in the UK. With a strong vocational focus, the course enjoys an excellent graduate employability record and high student satisfaction ratings in the National Student Survey. The BA (Hons) Journalism, established in 2008, is the latest addition to our portfolio, representing an exciting new direction in vocational education.
Postgraduate courses comprise a full-time MA Public Relations; a part-time MSc Corporate Communications tailored towards experienced practitioners, and a new professionally-orientated MA International Communication which has been developed in partnership with five European partner universities. The department is an established centre for the Advanced Certificate and Diploma professional courses delivered on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
To ensure currency in their disciplines, Subject Group staff are engaged in a wide range of research and scholarly activity, including corporate social responsibility, European public affairs, arts marketing and communication, sport public relations, internal communication, professional relationship management, and online communications.
In addition to the scholarly work engaged in by staff, research students are supported at postgraduate level through to PhD. Professor Ralph Tench is Director of the PhD programme for the Faculty of Business and Law and, alongside members of the Subject Group and Centre for Public Relations Studies, supervises research students on a range of communication, public relations and corporate communication subjects.
