Enterprise Masterclass
Self starters, innovators and lifelong learners: the role of assessment in
(dis)empowering learners

liz mcdowellThe session will draw on research data gathered from students and staff to examine more deeply the impacts of assessment on student learning and on their capabilities in the longer term. It will challenge what we ‘know’ about students’ responses to assessment, and dig beneath the surface of conventional models such as ‘constructive alignment’.

Maximum number of participants 20

Liz McDowell is a Professor in Academic Practice at Northumbria University and Director of a national Centre for Excellence in Assessment for Learning. The Centre has a dual role in conducting research in assessment and also promoting innovation and enhancement in assessment practice in the higher education sector. Liz has long-standing research interests in the student experience of assessment and the impacts of assessment on learning.

Creative Networks with Sir John Hegarty

Creative Networks is honoured that advertising legend, Sir John Hegarty, has agreed to speak at our March event, here in Yorkshire.

As Chairman & Worldwide Creative Director of Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), where he presides over one of the most successful and creatively acclaimed agencies of all time, Sir John has been responsible for some of the most celebrated ad campaign’s – from the 1982 Levi's advert featuring the infamous Nick Kamen stripping off in the laundrette through to the more recent and blockbusting Lynx effect campaigns.

Hegarty who started out in advertising as a Junior Art Director at Benton and Bowles in 1965 and went on to develop an incredibly rich and illustrious career, was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award in the 2005 International Clio Awards and was knighted in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honours.

An incredibly warm and generous speaker, Sir John, who was named "the Master of Creative Rebellion" by the Independent, will put forward ‘10 reasons why now is the best time to be in advertising’.

FLUX500

What is FLUX
FLUX 500 is the annual inter-university competition that bridges the gap between education and the world of work. Now in its 5th year, over 30,000 students have taken part from more than 100 universities throughout the UK.

How FLUX works
In a nutshell, teams of six spend 36 hours solving real business problems with experts from some of the UK's most dynamic companies, judging them in Apprentice meets Dragon's Den-style pitches and challenges. More than 60% of the students who have taken part were from non-business related subjects. FLUX is open to all who would like to challenge themselves and boost their employability skills.

What do you win? The title of FLUX National Champions 2010 and £500 cash each. Plus you boost your employability skills, meet top-class recruiters, enhance your CV, improve interview skills, meet new people and have a great time!

The Leeds Met CETLs: Embedding Excellence for Enhancement

The Leeds Met Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (Institute for Enterprise, ALiC and ALPS) are hosting a half day event: ‘Embedding Excellence for Enhancement’. This will be held on the morning of Wednesday 21st April 2010 in Old Broadcasting House to showcase the separate and joint work of the CETLs and raise awareness of potential project links for the future.

Key CETL outputs relating to projects, research and activities will be presented to offer a flavour of the range of work that the CETLs have undertaken. Collaborative CETL initiatives will also be explored demonstrating how CETL work streams can be embedded to enhance the student experience. Participants will have the opportunity to network and identify ways that their own area of work might link in to future projects. A full programme for the event will be issued shortly.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The specific Institute for Enterprise project showcase will take place in the afternoon of the same day (2:00 – 4:30pm) so why not stay all day?

The Leeds Met Institute for Enterprise would like to invite you to an event to celebrate to culmination of our 2009/10 projects scheme. This will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st April 2010 in Old Broadcasting House, the University’s purpose-built enterprise learning environment.

Key outputs relating to projects, related research and student responses will be presented to offer a flavour of the range of work that Leeds Met academics have undertaken. External-facing projects will also be represented and there will be ample opportunities to give feedback to our presenters, explore potential collaborations and share good practice. Participants will have the opportunity to network and identify ways that their own area of work might link in to future projects.

Entrepreneurship Workshop
Building capacity in the new 'European' School of Entrepreneurship

Date: 3rd and 4th June 2010
Venue: Newcastle University Business School

KITE (Knowledge Innovation, Technology and Enterprise centre) and the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship are proud to announce a workshop to be held at Newcastle University Business School in June 2010.

Professors William Gartner and Per Davidsson will give keynote addresses opening the workshop, and twenty leading entrepreneurship scholars will present papers discussing the emergence of a new ‘European’ school of entrepreneurship.
