I have highlighted in previous newsletters that the HEFCE consultation on student funding was an important one, relating to proposals in the recent White Paper to 'shake up' the student number control (i.e. largely fixed allocation of undergraduate student numbers to individual universities and colleges) by creating a contestable margin of 20,000 places and freeing up numbers relating to applicants with grades of AAB or better in 2012.
