Equality & Diversity

Staff & Student Equality Groups

At Leeds Met we see communication as a key aspect of an inclusive culture. By joining our network of staff and student forums, you can help us to help others get the information and support they need.  We have a tiered approach to embedding equality and diversity at our University so staff and students can get involved in a number of ways.  Our Equality & Diversity Committee is supported by the Faculty or Service area Advisory Groups and these are coordinated by our Diversity Champions. These are also supported by our staff and student equality forums which include:

  • Race
  • Disability
  • LGBT
  • Age
  • Belief and spirituality
  • Gender

These forums and advisory groups serve to provide a safe and supportive environment in which to discuss issues relating to the strands mentioned above as well as to provide support and networking and to share best practice.  Additionally they serve to contribute to policy development by impact assessing policies and procedures and raise awareness of issues associated with these strands.  Issues raised by the forums can be dealt with under the new equality and diversity structure either in the faculty/service area advisory groups or at the equality and diversity committee. The forums meet three to four times per year and are supported with a small development budget.

We are looking for new members for all these forums and advisory groups from across the university and would like to hear from you if you are interested in joining or have any questions.

Please contact Angi Marsden on Ext: 25472 A.Marsden@leedsmet.ac.uk if you would like to join or Ian Clarke on Ext: 25816  I.Clarke@leedsmet.ac.uk if you have a question regarding the forums.
