Equality Impact Assessment
An impact assessment is a means of equality proofing our policies, processes and practices to ensure we don't unwittingly favour, or discriminate against, groups as defined in the Equality Act 2010.
As a public sector organisation we're expected to demonstrate best practice and are committed to looking beyond compliance to continued improvement. Ideally an impact assessment should be completed in the development stage of new policies and processes to ensure that any equality feedback can be included in good time. Impact assessment outcomes are confirmed to Governance and are reported formally to the University's Equality and Diversity Committee. The process is currently guided which simply means that a member of the Equality & Diversity team will meet with you in order to complete the form. We are working toward making the process more suited to self-completion but this will not be introduced until October 2010 at the earliest. As well as assessing new policies we are working through our existing ones. A summary of completed assessments is published on this website. Full assessments are available on request from the Equality & Diversity Team. The assessment process is ongoing with 3 years considered to be the maximum time lag between assessments. If you require further advice on impact assessments please contact the team on 0113 812 7724. |
