International Volunteering Pricing Information

We aim to keep costs for our international volunteering team challenges as low as possible by trying to get the best deals on flights etc. Also we don't include any admin fees or charge for our time or any other university overheads. The prices given for each project are an estimate at this stage and the actual prices will be listed as and when we are certain of the costs.

What's included in the cost and what isn't

The price for each trip is different. Usually we include the cost of flights, visa, transfers, accommodation, team hoodies and t-shirts and sometimes food and local transport. This is why we can't give an exact price until nearer the time although we do our best to give a good guestimate. You'll find a list of what is and isn't included in the downloadable information about each trip. We ask volunteers to pay in instalments so if we find that the project is working our cheaper than expected, we'll adjust the price of the last instalment.

The following things are definitely NOT included: travel insurance, spending money, cost of any vaccinations that may be required and the cost of any independent travel. Sometimes it works out better if volunteers pay for their own food or local transport but we'll always let you know what is included in your trip before you apply.

Subsidy and other help with costs

All staff volunteering for the first time are eligible for a 10% discount. Home students volunteering for the first time are eligible for a discount of 10%, 20% or 30%. The discount is means-tested in the same way that the student grant is means-tested so you may be eligible for one of the following:

Tier 1  students not receiving a grant (and staff)  10% reduction
Tier 2  students receiving a partial grant  20% reduction
Tier 3  students receiving a full grant  30% reduction

Unfortunately students who have previously volunteered on an international volunteering project are not eligible for a subsidy.

Once recruited, teams will work together to fundraise for the costs of the project but also to donate funds directly to the host charity or organisation.

How to find out what tier you are in

For most students, the easiest way to find out which tier is to look at your "Financial Notification" letter from the student loans company. You need to look at the section called "Supplementary Grants" and check the amount written below it:

£00 students not receiving a grant Tier 1
£00 - £3673 students receiving a partial grant Tier 2
£23674 students receiving a full grant Tier 3

If you get a place on a project we'll ask you to give us a copy of your Financial Notification letter. Click on the link below for an example letter.
