Community Partnerships and Volunteering
How to apply

The application process
Applying is easy. When we're ready to recruit we'll put application forms on the website for you to download. Each trip has its own application form so please make sure that you use the correct one. We'll also provide you with guidance notes on filling in your application form and strongly advise that you take the time to read them. Recruitment for each trip is done seperataely and you'll find recruitment dates listed on each trip's webpage. When recruitment starts for a particular trip we'll notify everyone on our mailing list as well as putting adverts on the student portal and the classifieds section of the staff email. To receive alerts about when we're recruiting for each project join our mailing list. Once the deadline for application forms has passed, we'll make a shortlist of volunteers to go onto the next stage. For most trips volunteers will be invited to a short interview but for some trips, we'll organise a selection day where prospective volunteers are given group tasks and activities to do. We'll let volunteers know a few days later whether they have been successful or not.

How volunteers are selected
We try to make the selection process as fair as possible. Selection is based on suitability for the role and whether the individual will be suitable for the trip overall, how we feel the individual will fit in with the overall group and in some cases we may also take into account the potential for personal development.

If your application isn't successful
If you submit an application form and are not shortlisted, we'll let you know by email. If you are turned down at interview or selection-day stage, we'll phone you to let you know and we'll also keep you on a back up list in case anyone drops out. In both cases you are very welcome to apply for other projects.

Who can apply
Current Leeds Met students* can apply. Leeds Met students can also apply in the same calendar year of graduation. In addition, all members of Leeds Met staff on a contract can apply (unfortunately staff working through job shop are not eligible unless they are also a student at Leeds Met).
All students will need to gain permission from their personal tutor to participate and members of staff will need permission from their line manager.
*this includes students on undergraduate courses, post graduates courses, HNDs etc. Unfortunately it DOES NOT include students on evening classes or the community language classes - if unsure, please contact us.

Applying for more than one project
It is possible to apply for more than one project at a time and you will be asked on your form and at interview whether you are applying for any other projects. You will need apply for each trip separately and complete the relevant form. Please remember that different skills and experience will be required for each volunteering opportunity so you will need to tailor your application to the opportunity you are applying for. There is no limit to how many trips you can apply for but for each additional trip you go on but priority will be given to first-time volunteers and because places and funding are limited we cannot provide any help with funding for repeat volunteers.

If you can't decide which trip is best for you talk to us as soon as possible! It's a difficult situation because you are not guaranteed a place on the trip of your choice and the recruitment for each trip happens at a different time. The best thing is to come to a drop-in session so that you can discuss your options or if that's not possible email us

"Volunteering in at The Community Place was an amazing experience. Working with the children and wonderful teachers taught me so much about other cultures. I will always have fond memories of my time there"

"Working at Szkola Razem really showed me that we are all special in our own way. The experience of staying with a host family made me feel welcomed and everyone around showed me a great time"
