Find out more: Volunteers stay near Lublin, working with 3 organisations on programmes to support children and adults with learning disabilities.

The team will be split between 3 organisations close to Leeds Met's heart. 5 volunteers will be placed with "School Razem", a school and pre-school which has been set up by the local community to meet a very real need to provide a vibrant environment where children with and without learning disabilities can be educated together. Volunteers will stay with host families and help the English teachers with their classes. Volunteers will also help out with school trips and sporting activities including a 3 day trip to the mountain district. The second organisation is "Fundacja Miedzy Nami", a day centre for adults with learning disabilities in the countryside near the historic town of Lublin. 2 volunteers will help with a variety of activities some of which may include arts and crafts workshops, gentle exercise, music, cooking workshops and also day trips. The third organisation, "Srodowiskowy Dom Samopmcocy" (SDS) works with older people who suffer from psychological difficulties and learning disabilities and 2 volunteers will help to deliver a range of activities including arts, crafts and drama classes and assist with day trips. Volunteers will stay in a hostel in or near to Lublin.

In addition to the hard work, volunteers will get the chance to explore local culture, history and enjoy a free weekend which could include camping in the mountains or more sightseeing in and around Lublin.

Adventurousness rating: 3 of 5! Volunteers are based with host families and there is a certain amount of culture shock, but the accommodation is comfortable and the food is varied, some cuisine is similar to English dishes. The volunteering hours are long and can be challenging but volunteers are well supported by staff and working in the centres is fun and very rewarding.
