Leeds Met hosts the Global Events Congress

The UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University is pleased to have recently hosted the fourth Global Events Congress, 'Events and Festivals Research: State of the Art' at the University's multiple award-winning venue, The Rose Bowl.

The congress brought together researchers from across the world and provided an opportunity to discuss the latest thinking on a number of key themes and for the delegates to broaden their horizons. Topics for discussion included events in the context of social, cultural and economic policy, tourism, educational festivals, cultural exchange, legacies, events management and planning.

Glenn Bowdin, head of the UK Centre for Events Management said: 'The Global Events Congress enabled the UK Centre for Events Management to share leading research and insights into global events with delegates from over 25 countries in our award-winning Leeds Met conference venues. Our delegates were impressed with the congress, our speakers as well as the city of Leeds and we thank our sponsors and supporters including Conference Leeds for their support.'

Nicola Lockwood, Business Tourism Manager for Conference Leeds, added: 'It's a great privilege to host an event of this scale and we are delighted that it was such a success. The team has a wide range of experience in organising events like the Global Events Congress and we realise the importance of fine tuning every detail.'

The programme for the event included papers from more than twenty countries and an array of internationally renowned keynote speakers, including Professor Michael C. Hall, University of Canterbury in New Zealand; Martin Green, Head of Ceremonies for London 2012 Organising Committee and Alain Dupeyras, Head of Tourism OECD in Paris.
