Dame Kelly Holmes gets Athletes back on Track
25/03/2009
The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust (DKH), 'Harnessing Your Talents' conference took place at Leeds Metropolitan University's Headingley Campus on 24th and 25th March 2009. The aim of the conference was to help ex-athletes build on their experience as an elite athlete and further develop their skills as they transition from competition into a new career.
The University welcomed over 200 delegates in the contemporary and sophisticated Gandhi Hall in the idyllic settings of the Headingley Campus. The elite athletes networking evening offered the already retired, retiring or current elite athletes the opportunity to network with a variety of top commercial and sporting organisations. Leeds Met students, staff, coaches and the wider business community also rubbed shoulders with elite ex-athletes such as Brian Steele, Ed Barny, Steve Parry and Dr David Hemery.
Keith Morris, Deputy Director of University Sport, Leeds Metropolitan University, commented:
"Leeds Met are delighted that Dame Kelly Holmes chose to stage the first DKH Trust 'harnessing talents' conference at our Headingley Campus, the home of the UK Centre for Coaching Excellence.
Dame Kelly is always welcome at the University having recently opened the Carnegie Centre for Sports Performance and Wellbeing, as well as being an honorary graduate of Leeds Met. We are happy to work in partnership with the trust as their aims, which include developing skills, nurturing talent and supporting young people to believe in their own talents, are aims that we as a University strive for in the delivery of education and through our sporting excellence. We are looking forward to supporting Dame Kelly Holmes and the future work of the DKH Trust."
