Charitable Trust Logo
The Academy of Marketing and Leeds Metropolitan University would like to acknowledge the generous support of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Charitable Trust towards the funding of the Doctoral Colloquium. The Trust was established in 1978 as a totally independent charity.  It exists to support education, research and good practice in marketing.

DELEGATE INFORMATION

Monday July 6th

The Colloquium begins with Registration between 10.00 and 11.00 in the Rose Bowl.

The programme begins at 11.00 with a welcome by Prof Steve Carter and the first of our presentations by a Doctoral Colloquium Facilitator, Prof. Mike Saren.

Lunch will be between 12.30 and 13.30 followed by presentations by Dr. Avi Shankar and Prof Robin Wensley.

After the break between 15.00 and 15.30 we will all meet again where you will all be put into groups of  8 or so for individual presentations on Tuesday morning. Rooms will be allocated for this at this time.

After that you should rework your Tuesday presentation, if needed, in the light of the facilitators’ inputs, roughly between 16.00 and 17.30

The day ends with a bus leaving the Rose Bowl at 17.45 for the Royal Armouries, where we join members of the Academy of Marketing Executive for a drinks reception and BBQ buffet.  A bus will then return at 22.15 to the Opal residence accommodation, also stopping in the city centre to drop delegates who are staying elsewhere.

Tuesday July 7th

The day starts promptly at 09.00 when each group will meet in separate rooms in the Rose Bowl.

Individual presentations of 15 minutes plus questions and answers will then take place with one of the facilitators giving additional advice.

This will be the pattern for the morning with a break at 10.30 -11.00.

We will all reconvene at 12.15 where Prof. Steve Carter will wrap the session up.

The Colloquium ends with lunch and the presentation of awards at 12.30.

The 2009 Doctoral Colloquium will be held on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th July at the Rose Bowl, Leeds Metropolitan University’s new state-of-the-art Business School in the heart of Leeds Civic Quarter.  Details of the venue and travel to Leeds can be found on the AM 2009 web pages.  If you’d like to find out more about Leeds and its surroundings, please click here.

You may wish to arrange your own accommodation in Leeds.  Alternatively, we are providing accommodation on the Sunday and Monday nights in Leeds Met’s Opal One & Two student accommodation building.  Full details can be found on our accommodation page.

The Colloquium will provide doctoral students the opportunity to gain guidance and advice from a team of experienced scholars. This year we are introducing a new format, with three eminent and experienced researchers. The Colloquium will be in two synergistic parts. The first part will involve presentations by our guest presenters:

Professor Robin Wensley
Warwick Business School
‘World Class PhD’s’
Professor Michael Saren
University of Leicester School of Management
‘Formulating your PhD’
Dr Avi Shankar
University of Bath School of Management
‘Type A and Type B PhD’s’

This section will then be wrapped up by Professor Steve Carter of Leeds Business School who will talk on ‘Putting it all Together’.

The second part will involve doctoral students working up their papers into presentations, taking account of the advice provided by our presenters.

On the Monday evening all Doctoral Colloquium delegates will join representatives from the Academy of Marketing with a BBQ buffet.  This will be on the waterfront at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.  The Colloquium ends with lunch on Tuesday 7th.
