New Zealand RL superstar well met by Leeds Met at Leeds Bradford Airport.
New Leeds signing Brent Webb and his partner Julie were warmly welcomed to Leeds on New Year's Eve by Gary Hetherington and Leeds Met colleagues despite the cold winds and driving rain. Minutes earlier, Leeds Met student and Rhinos player Nick Scruton arrived from Spain, pleased to be home after several hours flight delay, and was pleased to see familiar smiling faces. Brent, looking surprisingly relaxed after his long trip to Leeds, expressed his thanks to being well met and enthusiastically looked forward to playing for the Rhinos and the birth of his first child in the New Year.
Brent replaces Richie Mathers, another former Leeds Met student and Rhinos star, who will be playing in Australia’s NRL this coming season. The 26yr old New Zealand 2006 player of the year is rated one of the best, if not the best full back in the world and was named in the 2006 world X111 following very impressive performances in the recent tri nations where he scored three brilliant tries in two successive victories against GB. Whether it is Brent, Nick or new or returning students there will always be a warm welcome from Leeds Met and our partners in 2007.
