In 2009, the Steve Prescott Foundation raised money for the RFL Benevolent Fund and Christies Hospital through the sponsorship and the participation of celebrities and other members of the rugby league community in a two part challenge. For each televised Carnegie Challenge Cup game the team delivered the match ball to the ground, using the journey as a training session to help them prepare for their main challenge of travelling from Catalans to Wembley in time to deliver the match ball for the Carnegie Challenge Cup final to a packed Wembley Stadium.
On 17th August the team, including Paul Sculthorpe, Chris Joynt, Steve Prescott, Jimmy Gittens, Peter Stephenson, Steve Hall, Chris Smith and Lee Jackson set out on their two week extraordinary challenge.
Steve received an amazing reception from the crowd at Wembley when he placed the match ball on the centre spot before the Final and the whole team took part in a lap of honour with the quad-bike at half time.
Steve's extraordinary achievements and fund-raising efforts were recognised in the New Year's Honours List when he was awarded the MBE.
