Carnegie Great Outdoors

Residentials & School Trips

All new Sport and Education students in the Carnegie Faculty benefit from the unique Carnegie Residential Experience, provided by Carnegie Great Outdoors. The residential offers a unique opportunity for new students to meet one another and course staff in an environment which encourages the establishment of individual and group friendships and the development of students' personal and social skills.

Throughout October, students have the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor and academic activities. These include problem solving tasks, team challenges, educational visits, rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, mountaineering, canoeing and kayaking. Activities are run by highly qualified staff from Carnegie Great Outdoors and are specifically designed to cater for people with differing levels of ability and fitness and to recognise the needs of our diverse student population. Academic lectures and workshops are an essential part of the residential experience and all students take part
in scheduled sessions. These are run by course tutors and in most cases are linked directly to a module of study.

Our award winning residential programmes are rated very highly by students and for most it is one of the highlights of their time at university. Programmes are tailored to complement and address key aspects of a student's course and they all include a critical blend of outdoor, academic and social activities.
