The hallmark of the work of the Carnegie Research Institute in Sport, Leisure, Education and Childhood is its critical engagement with the real world, challenging what is 'taken for granted'. We already have a vibrant post-graduate research community with approximately 150 research students. CRI brings a fresh and informed perspective to research on sport and exercise science, leisure, education and childhood. We are offering the chance to join a large and vibrant research team within the Carnegie Faculty of Sport and Education. We are offering 4 post-graduate research studentships available to study for a Doctorate of Philosophy for a period of three years.
We are seeking research proposals from interested applicants to compliment any one of our seven Research Centres noted below:
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Research that shows a critical engagement with issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (including transitions; spaces; identities; social relations; policy) in sport, leisure physical education or educational contexts.

Active Lifestyles: Research that shows informal physical activity, formal exercise and structured sport provides an impressive armoury of options for improving physical, social and mental health.

Each bursary will pay £12,900/yr + UK/EU fees. These bursaries are available from 1st January 2011. The studentships will be available for a period of three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Applicants should have a good quality first degree in an appropriate subject. A Master's with honours qualification could also be an advantage. However, a spirit of enquiry, a thirst for knowledge and perseverance are equally important.
