Carnegie Lecturer in Swimming Hall of Fame 24/03/09 Stathis Avramidis, a part time lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University Carnegie Faculty, has received the Paragon Award of Water Safety, which means that he will be placed in the International Swimming Hall of Fame.Stathis Avramidis said: “The Paragon Award is the most prestigious worldwide recognition that an aquatic safety professional might have. Therefore, I feel very honoured to be presented it. I remember that when I was first involved in aquatics as a water polo player, I was wishing to get a Bronze Medal in the National Championship that was held in Macedonia in Northern Greece. Many years later, I was not only nominated by a past award recipient, Dr Tom Griffiths, but also was selected to be the winner in the Water Safety Category from the ISHOF committee.” “This academic year has been very successful so far as I have edited/published the Handbook on Drowning together with 144 co-authors from 22 countries. I will be inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame and I am working towards the completion of my PhD on drowning. I feel the need to share this success with my lovely family Pantelis, Josephine and Eleftheria who supported me in every step of my life, but also with all my colleagues from the Carnegie Faculty of Sports and Education in Leeds Metropolitan University who worked and assisted me the last 11 years.” You can find more information about Stathis by clicking here. |
