Article in Pepperdine’s student newspaper about this debate · Worked with student-athletes from the CHAMPS program in contexts beyond the classroom and dealt with many issues, such as coach-athlete conflict, time management and eating disorders. Students from the first cohort of my CHAMPS class played a significant role in helping Pepperdine to a best-ever 36th place in the United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings for 2005-2006 and also to be the top-ranked Division 1-AAA (non-football school) institution. In addition to CHAMPS, I taught independent study classes (especially Strength & Power Training for Sport for basketball and volleyball players) and mentored a number of athletes who are now playing at the highest professional level in a range of sports, including basketball (NBA), beach volleyball (AVP) and golf (LPGA). · Created Adapted Aquatics and Golf Programs for persons with developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome and autistic disorder, from Esperance Center in Malibu. August 2001 – July 2002 · Taught a wide variety of classes in physical education, acted as academic advisor, and provided advice on laboratory development July 2000 – July 2001 · Involved in a wide range of management and administrative roles, including the preparation for the visit from the Quality Assurance Agency and advising the development of new laboratories August 1997 – June 2000 · Led the development of a new sports science degree and was responsible for the strategic plan, curriculum development, quality control, quality assurance, marketing, advertising, student recruitment & admissions, development of research programmes, control of devolved budget, procurement of capital equipment, staff recruitment, staff development, and health & safety. · Led the development of a motion analysis laboratory, negotiated a research & development partnership with Oxford Metrics Ltd, and recruited personnel to facilitate faculty-guided undergraduate research in sports motion analysis. See features below from the Daily Telegraph and the BBC: November 1995 - July 1997 · Created the Surrey University Centre for Continuing Education Sports Science (SUCCESS) programme, the first sports science programme in UK undergraduate higher education that was designed specifically for the part-time adult learner; responsible for marketing and sales, writing of syllabi, delivery of modules and student recruitment; recruited over 100 students onto this programme. Most of these achieved credits and some achieved the 60 credits necessary to achieve a ‘Foundation Certificate in Sports Science’ April 1994 – June 1998 · Developed and delivered modules on sports science for the Higher/National Diploma in Golf Studies September 1994 – April 1995 · Delivered undergraduate modules in sport psychology, motor learning, research methods and statistics for physical education and sports science students · Developed and delivered a postgraduate module on data analysis and statistics for the M.Sc. Exercise & Health October 1993 – December 1993 · Developed and delivered a course on psychology aimed at the general public October 1992 – June 1992 · Developed individualized courses for students from US universities such as Yale and Dartmouth who were staying in Oxford for one or more terms Biography – Golf Coaching ¨Taught golf classes in the physical education program at Pepperdine University and also developed a golf program for persons with developmental disabilities from the Esperance Center, Malibu (2002-2005) ¨Taught golf class at Eastern Oregon University and also provided coaching for the Special Olympics in Oregon (2002) ¨Associate Coach for the English Golf Union: provided education and training for potential boy internationals in the South Region during winter weekends (1996 – 2001) ¨Led or assisted the coaching of teams such as: University of Bath (Winner of British Universities Order of Merit tournament, Team Championship, at St. Andrews, 2005); University of Surrey (Winner of British Universities Team Championship, 1997); Swansea University (Winner of Welsh Universities League, 2000); Merrist Wood College (Winner of British Colleges Championship, 1996); Surrey County Ladies (Runner-up in National County Finals, 1999) ¨ Set up golf bursary schemes funded by the governing body of golf (The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) at the University of Surrey (1996) and University of Wales Swansea (1998) ¨Assisted in coaching of the Oxford University team for the annual match against Cambridge University (1993-2001) – win/loss record of 7/2 ¨PGA European Tour (1985 – 1992) caddie in conjunction with undergraduate studies and doctoral research ¨Provided coaching / consultancy on the mental, physical and technical sides of golf for many golfers (professional and amateur) on both an individual and team basis (1985 - present)Main Responsibilities ¨Teaching and Research Group Leader for Sports Coaching ¨Teaching classes on B.Sc.
