Rock-It-Ball Championship at Carnegie

On Saturday the Carnegie National Rock-It-Ball Championship took place at Headingley Campus. It was an action packed day in which seven teams from all over the UK participated in a round robin tournament.

This highly competitive but inclusive new sport was represented by a number of teams who travelled from as far a field as Scotland to play. A Leeds Met team also played for the first time and performed very well against more experienced opposition. Players and spectators alike enjoyed the fast pace action and the venue and are eagerly awaiting next year's event. After an incredibly lively and competitive day of matches, the Loughborough Team were the overall winners and were awarded the National Rock-It-Ball Championships 2007.

Rock-It-Ball is a fast moving ball sport which is sweeping through schools across the country. It is a fun and exciting new game that has been described as “a cross between Pelota, Dodgeball and Lacrosse”. It is played in teams of five with five balls in play at any one time but is adaptable to accommodate players from one to six or more.  Each player has a Rock-it which consists of a control bar with a thrower/catcher at each end.  Points are scored by targeting an opponent with a ball.

The Leeds Met team were; Chris Murray, Sian Hills, Sarah Beale, Cara Evans, Pippa Burgin and Karli Wilkinson.
