International Students
How Leeds Met Careers can help you:
Leeds Met Careers welcomes all international students. The Careers Advisers can help you with:
- Writing your CV
You may require a slightly different type of CV for UK graduate recruitment than the one you currently use.
- Application Forms
Many graduate employers recruit almost a year in advance. You may need to send off applications in the autumn term for jobs which start the following summer.
- Interviews and Assessment Centres
The Careers Advisers can help you prepare for this stage of the application process if you book an appointment. They can direct you to appropriate resources.
- Job Vacancies
Some useful websites are:
Border Agencies website (See the Register of sponsors - employers, pdf document)
International JobsOnline
The Graduate Employment pages on our website
- Comparing international qualifications to their UK equivalent
If you are a current or prospective student who would like to compare your international qualifications to their UK equivalent by using NARIC please book an appointment.
- Careers Events and Workshops
Each academic year there are opportunities to attend careers workshops and events. Recent workshops have included CV, Assessment Centre and Interview Skills Workshops. In March, the Jobs & Careers Team hosted a Careers Cafe for International students. Over tea and cake, students received feedback on their CVs, learned how to improve their job hunting strategies and attended a workshop where they had the opportunity to practise interview questions in a role play. Students commented that they had received helpful advice and had enjoyed the activities and increased their confidence.
Leeds Met Careers offers careers advice for international students. We are not legally able to give advice on immigration - for individual queries about work permit eligibility contact our International Adviser.
However we would highlight the following points as you approach the end of your studies:
- The Post Study Work application must be applied for whilst your student visa is still valid.
- Once you have obtained your results you can work more hours however, you must not accept a permanent position whilst you are still using your student visa.
- The terms of your student visa still apply whilst you are awaiting a decision on your Post Study Work application.
- The UKCISA website contains useful advice on working in the UK during and after your studies.
