Children's Workforce Capacity Building
Carnegie Weight Management (CWM) is an organisation based at Leeds Metropolitan University, that provides safe, fun and effective treatment programmes for overweight and obese children.
Over the last ten years CWM have worked with a host of PCTs, charities and public sector organisations to deliver bespoke weight management services to fit their individual requirements. CWM don't believe in a "one-size fits all" approach. Instead they work with organisations to deliver a localised care pathway that meets both an organisation's specific needs and those of the young people and families they are seeking to help.
CWM Community Camps and Clubs are delivered in tandem with the PCT and education partnerships. With regards to the actual delivery (the running of the camps and clubs), there are two options:
. Direct Delivery by CWM: Working with regional healthcare bodies to put in place a long-term, sustainable obesity care pathway for their region. CWM's fully trained staff would then deliver the programme(s) on the organisations behalf.
. Capacity building with Public Health Partners: Alternatively, CWM train up a local provider to deliver the services. CWM continue to provide ongoing support, particularly in terms of evaluation of outcomes, communications activity, continued training and capacity building
"We are proposing an extensive programme over the next five years which will include a range of both targeted interventions and universal training. Carnegie Weight Management have been exceptional in understanding the need for localising services and have been professional, approachable and flexible in ensuring that we achieve a robust and sustainable strategy, rather than selling an off the shelf product.
Professor Paul Gately and his team have given an exceptional service. Having spent much time looking at existing models and considered options for home grown programmes, I considered that the experience of working with CWM, the expertise they offer, not just in terms of delivery, but research and evidence based practice, will ensure that we achieve the best possible outcomes."
