Case study: Zen Rooms

Former Leeds met student, Mark Boreland, recently launched his new business venture, Zen Rooms.

Zen rooms is a luxury domestic cleaning service for affluent residential areas of Leeds , Bradford and Huddersfield, offering only the very best service.

By using only non-toxic, eco friendly products Zen rooms provides a unique cleaning experience while remaining conscious of environmental concerns.

The Zen Rooms cleaning pamper experience will ensure that you will come home to a space that is clean, rejuvenating and stimulating to the senses.

After a top-to-bottom clean, staff will burn organic oils, fold down bed sheets, leave an organic chocolate on your pillow and even spray lavender mist around the rooms.

“The best thing about working for myself is; working for myself. All my time and energy is centred around two key factors, which are ultimately that Zen Rooms has a maximum input of time and effort. Not having any other work commitments means I can stay focused and use my drive to achieve what I have set out for, this will no doubt allow Zen Rooms to flourish into a fantastic business” said Mark.

In April 2008, Mark applied for the Proof of Concept grant from Business Start-up. The aim of the grant is to provide financial assistance to help test the feasibility of enterprising ideas for business start ups. Mark was awarded £1000 which he used for marketing materials and advice.

“The grant has been more than useful. It has helped me to get the very best marketing material needed to guarantee a success when putting Zen Rooms out to the public. The advice has also been invaluable. It's definitely not an easy task, starting a new service and trying to promote it at the same time, so the fact I have had someone there at every corner to help me if ever in doubt, is something which I truly value”.
