Case study: James Fawcett

James Fawcett is a current Leeds Metropolitan University student, studying Graphic Design. He is also the owner and sole operator of James Fawcett Design, where he works as a freelance web designer and developer. He is passionate about his business and his customers, as shown by his website.

“When you hire me to build your website, you're hiring a website designer that believes strongly in working hard to produce great websites with no limits, supporting accessibility, and supporting the real people who are going to be using your website - without costing the earth.”

James has set up a number of web based businesses during his time at University from selling carbon fibre numberplates to full colour stickers for windows, cars and more. He has also been working with the Timothy Taylor brewery, coming up with ideas for poster branding to appear in and around their pubs.

“My job was to come up with poster designs that will fit into all of their pubs, both old and new without looking out of place”

James has also done work for other pubs in Leeds, designing posters, menus, banners and flyers, “any design work they need”.

James attended the Business Start-Up Entrepreneurs Boot Camp in July 2008, a four day course designed to provide students and graduates with all the practical advice needed to start their own business.

The advice that James received on the boot camp has helped him become a very promising freelance web designer and developer. “I've got myself some really big freelance contracts now, I’m really enjoying it” said James.
