Tom Sutcliffe is a Business Start-Up client that is currently in the process of starting his social enterprise, Lift2. He has recently received some funding in the form of the UnLtd award in conjunction with the Sharing the Success – the Leeds Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) – a programme created using Government funding to help regenerate some areas within Leeds.

UNLTD helps enterprises with a social aim in a number of ways. Their website, www.unltd.org.uk describes the company as;

“a charity which supports social entrepreneurs - people with vision, drive, commitment and passion who want to change the world for the better. We do this by providing a complete package of funding and support, to help these individuals make their ideas a reality”

Tom received a level 1 award (between £500 & £5000, average £2000) that he is going to use to take the business forward. Tom says;

“The money from UnLtd will go towards my website, office space and [associated start-up costs] which will definitely give me some breathing space when I start trading in September”

Lift2 is a social networking car share site creating greener, cheaper and friendly journeys for students. The website will cater to students that need to travel up and down the country, offering a place to find others going the same way. Website users can advertise the free space in their cars or look for space in somebody else’s car to share journeys, saving on cost, time and unnecessary emissions in a social, environmental and productive solution to the problems associated with student travel.

 Look out for the launch of Tom’s website, www.lift2.co.uk. It is possible to join a mailing list for notification of when he will start trading – follow the link.
