In harmony with Black Dyke Band

A champion year for Leeds Met’s newest cultural partner

As featured on BBC Look North, Leeds Met’s newest cultural partner, Black Dyke Band, won the 2005 Band of the Year title following a year in which the band also walked away with the European and British Open Champions titles.

In the same awards, run by online brass website 4barsrest.com, the band’s Musical Director Dr Nicholas Childs received the prestigious Conductor of the Year award. The band also picked up Contest Performance of the Year and, in addition, newly appointed principal cornet player Richard Marshall received an award for Solo CD of the Year for his album entitled Blaze.

The band now looks forward to playing in the European Brass Band Contest at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on 29 April.
