Psychology and Society represents a different way of doing Psychology and of being a Psychologist.

It is the only undergraduate degree of its kind in the UK and offers a unique, varied and rich learning experience.

Psychology and Society BA (Hons) is a socially engaged, environmentally aware, spiritually literate and integrally informed undergraduate degree running at Leeds Metropolitan University’s School of Social Sciences.

This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of the study of human behaviour and experience within a social context. It sees all psychology as being affected by historical social, cultural and political forces.

A theme of the course will be that of social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth. There are modules in consciousness studies, psychoanalysis, societal psychology, humanistic and transpersonal psychology, parapsychology, the psychology of myth, the work of Jung, the social psychology of music, the sacred and the social and many other exciting topics (including the opportunity to pursue your own research in the third year).

Psychology and Society is critically oriented and will demonstrate the limitations as well as the value of conventional psychology.

The course is intended to be challenging but also accessible. In the case of mature students’ admissions, one’s relevant life experience and interests are all taken into account. You are admitted not simply on the basis of what you already know, but on the basis of what you wish to learn and discover.
