About the Faculty
Welcome to the Faculty of Arts & Society
The 5000 undergraduate, postgraduate and research students in the Faculty are based at the Civic Quarter of the University. Our courses are managed by staff in six Schools, that span a broad range of cultural, social and technical subjects. During the year we celebrate the achievements of our students in all fields, so you might easily encounter a performance, an exhibition, a student-led conference, or a volunteering project.
As staff committed to supporting your learning we believe that getting to know you as an individual is crucial to your, and our, success. We place great emphasis, for this reason, on the personal tutor relationship, and stress the part that you must play if this is to be effective. As you plan your personal development you will find many sources of support are available, whatever your concerns or difficulties.
In addition to offering a stimulating curriculum many of our teaching staff are leaders in their field, and are expected to maintain an individual profile in research and professional activity. This in turn, nourishes teaching and brings students into contact with excellence in its many shapes and forms, provides opportunities for work-based learning and builds links with potential mentors.
Leeds Met has excellent facilities across the Civic Quarter and Headingley Campus. Many of our students regularly make use of the high-quality sporting, social and learning support facilities available at both locations.
