Research Students

CUDEM provides a dynamic and supportive environment for postgraduate and research students. Students can choose to study full-time, part-time or at a distance provided they are able to maintain sufficient contact with their supervisors. We particularly welcome applications from research students wishing to pursue topics within our three areas of research interest:

• Community consultation
• European housing issues
• Building sustainable communities

All students receive research training through the University's Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods or similar programmes and are individually supervised by a team of qualified staff. Our growing number of research students is a clear indication of the quality of the supervision we provide supported by a dynamic research environment.

Recent research completions include studies of:
• Regional sustainability
• Regional partnerships and economic
   development in England
• Compulsory Competitive Tendering and
   restructuring of the local authority workforce

Examples of research undertaken by current students include:
• The ontological and epistemological issues
   arising from virtual reality technologies
• Analysis of qualitative systems models in
   futures studies
• Investigating trends in the small business
   domain
• Reducing uncertainty in predicting the future:
   New theories and techniques tested
• The importance of pre-project and briefing
   stages in achieving design quality
