Biography

Neil's research activity has evolved from research into community participation in neighbourhood regeneration initiatives in Japanese inner cities to a wider range of interests with a UK or European focus.

Research interests

Neil's research interests includes working on an ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) funded project on the regionalisation of, and governance arrangements for, waste management planning in England; 'territorial governance', or the governance of urban/territorial policy-making, within Europe as part of the ESPON (European Spatial Planning Observation Network) Programme; and the relevance of the Sustainable Communities agenda for European countries. Neil's current endeavour is concerned with examining the interface between discourses of sustainable communities and territorial cohesion.
