Biography
David joined Leeds Metropolitan as a part-time lecturer in 2003, jointly working with local government at Leeds City Council. Prior to teaching, David had over eight years experience working in local government in disciplines such as planning, local economics, regeneration, community planning and housing. David completed his PhD in 2009 which looked at the construction and effectiveness of regional and sub-regional social enterprise support networks in Yorkshire and the Humber and the North West of England. David is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and Institute of Economic Development. He also sits on the Professional Housing Education Group, consisting of housing course leaders from UK Universities.
Research interests
David's key interests relate to structure agency issues in social enterprise policy support structures, the implications of longer-term urban policy evaluations which make use of qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis and the role of social enterprise in the generation of social capital and the wider roles involved in local economic restructuring in deprived areas. He is also developing research interests in post-colonial cities and housing development, non-elected state and public service provision in the global south and spaces for neo-communitarianism in the UK
