Talk About the North 2010
'Talk about the North', organised by the Institute of Northern Studies, in the School of Cultural Studies, will be recommencing their popular lunch-time lecture series on Wednesday 3 March, when Professor Robert Colls of the University of Leicester talks on 'Orwell and the North'.


The Environment in World History
Covering the last five hundred years of global history, Dr Stephen Mosley's new book examines the processes that have transformed the Earth and put growing pressure on natural resources.


Fighting Fires: Creating the British Fire Service, 1800-1978

Dr Shane Ewen, Senior Lecturer in Social and Cultural History, School of Cultural Studies, has had his second book published, entitled Fighting Fires: Creating the British Fire Service, 1800-1978, published by Palgrave Macmillan in December 2009.


Praise for Rugby Book

Christmas came early for Leeds Met's Professor Tony Collins. His book 'A Social History of English Rugby Union' was named as one of the books of 2009 by the 'Independent on Sunday' and the 'New Statesman'.

The book traces the history of the 15-a-side code from its origins at Rugby School to the professional media-driven sport of today.
