School of Cultural Studies

Internationalisation and the School

Are you interested in studying abroad in your Second Year?

For Level 2 students there are two different exchange programmes which would allow you to spend a semester at a university abroad.

The School of Cultural Studies has Socrates/Erasmus partnerships with the University of Brussels, The University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), the University of Tarragona (Spain), the Universite du Havre and the University of Limerick.  In the case of Le Havre, you need a knowledge of French but for the other universities, classes are taught in English.  We have been host to students from all these universities this year and our European partners are keen for Leeds Met students to join them for a semester. The EU under whose auspices these exchanges are organised also pays a small monthly grant to students on Erasmus programmes.

On behalf of Leeds Met as a whole, the International Office has organised exchanges with a number of universities in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Both schemes:

  • can be arranged for either the first or second semester
  • you study four modules and receive the same credit points as if you were studying at Leeds Met
  • at Level 3, although you need to pass the modules you have studied abroad, your degree classification will take into account only the marks you have received for the modules studied at Leeds Met, which means that only four modules will be included rather than the normal eight Level 2 modules

You won't, of course, be able to study precisely the same diet of modules as you would at Leeds Met but course leaders believe that studying abroad is such an enriching experience that this more than compensates for missing some of our own modules.  It is also a valuable addition to your CV.  But perhaps most of all, it is a great chance for you to experience living abroad, getting to know other students and participating in another culture.
