Tim specialises in the measurement and control of noise and vibration. He advises a number of private companies and public bodies on noise problems. This can involve projects as diverse as studying the vibration exposure of fork-lift truck drivers, or advising on communication problems in an emergency call centre. He has worked with managers at the Northern Ballet Theatre to control the noise exposure of orchestral musicians, and contributes acoustic expertise to some of the research projects carried out by colleagues who are studying low energy housing.

Teaching Interests
Tim is the course leader for the Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and runs short courses on noise and vibration. Apart from acoustics, he teaches data collection and research methods on a number of course including the BSc and MSc Environmental Health courses. He is a fellow of the Institute of Acoustics and of the Higher Education Academy.
