UCAS Applications

Applicants for all full time courses, should apply through UCAS.  Applications can be requested from UCAS by emailing app.req@ucas.ac.uk or by contacting them at http://www.ucas.ac.uk/

BA(Hons) Contemporary Art Practices

BA(Hons) Fine Art

BA(Hons) Graphic Arts & Design

Applicants should have studied or had relevant experience, for at least two years post 16.

Admission to the course is based primarily on the evaluation of identified attributes, skills and abilities as they are evidenced through a portfolio of work and interview, plus one of the following:

GCE/VCE Advanced Level and New BTEC Nationals: Two 6-unit qualifications or one 12-unit VCE Double Award, plus three other subjects at GCSE grade C or above.

  • National Diploma: An overall pass in a subject relevant to the course you have chosen.
  • SQA Advanced Highers: Two band C passes plus three other subjects at standard grade (grade 3) or above.
  • International Baccalaureate: The full diploma with a minimum of 24 points.
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: Five higher/honours passes.
  • Currently undertaking or have completed foundation course in art and design.      
  • Currently undertaking or have completed a BTEC National Diploma in a relevant subject.
  • Currently undertaking or have completed an Access course in a relevant subject.
  • A combination of work/life experience, motivation, lifelong learning, work based learning or other studies.



Admission to our undergraduate courses is based primarily on an interview and submission of a portfolio of your work.

Applications are considered against the following:

Evaluation of Personal Skills and Abilities

If the applicant can demonstrate the minimum certificated qualification their application will be evaluated against the extent to which they can demonstrate the following skills and attributes.

The following criteria should be demonstrated through the application form and will be used as the criteria for offering an interview.

  • consideration of their intentions for their chosen study
  • consideration of why the particular course is appropriate interest, knowledge and awareness of the subject and its contexts
  • an identification of initial practical and cognitive skills
  • clarity of communication in making the application 

The following criteria will be used as the basis of the interview and as the criteria for the offer of a place.

  • the ability to convey enthusiasm and interest in the subject and its study
  • creative thinking and ability
  • self motivation and tenacity
  • social and cultural awareness
  • the ability describe evaluate their work
  • knowledge and understanding of art and design practice
