Biography
Wendy Mayfield is a principal lecturer based in design, teaching across a range of undergraduate, post graduate and research programmes. Her curriculum responsibilities include design practices, research methods, critical and contextual studies, and personal and professional development.
Coming from a professional background in ergonomics research and consultancy, Wendy has particular interests in evidence based user centred design, inclusivity and design for special needs. In recent years her interests have turned to sustainability, 'design for the other 90%' and appropriate technology in developing world contexts. She has been privileged to accompany design students on working field trips to Indonesia and The Gambia, working on appropriate technology projects including playspaces and products using passive solar energy.
In recent years Wendy's personal research has ranged across applied ergonomics, gender issues in design, the role of writing in Higher Education design studies, personal and professional development in pedagogy.
