Julie MacDermott
Position
Senior Lecturer and Course Leader, BA Hons Interior Architecture & Design
Biography
Originally a furniture designer Julie worked in furniture, interiors and exhibition design but her true passion is design education. Julie's design inspiration comes from, poetry, music, theatre and observing what makes people tick and in the belief that creativity is heightened by multi-disciplinary activity. Julie's recent creative ventures include working as an artist on collaborative research with a programmer, a theatre director and a psychologist, where they explored creative visual potential of a programming package culminating in an exhibition of sixteen canvases of 'talking art'.
Personal research interests include the role of senses and emotions in design activity. Julie approaches interior architecture and design as a site specific art form, involving the sculpting of spaces which are capable of being as evocative, controversial, emotive, comforting, and invigorating as art in a gallery.
