Landscape Architecture, Garden Art & Design and Urban Design Facilities

Landscape Architecture, Garden Art & Design and Urban Design courses are based in our award-winning building, Broadcasting Place in the City Campus, where students have access to an impressive range of workshop and studio-based facilities. In addition, we have a dedicated outdoor space at our Headingley Campus, where our students gain invaluable hands-on experience of planting design, ecology, environmental art and construction.

Studios
Our courses have a dedicated purpose-built studio space, with fantastic views of Leeds, on the top floor of Broadcasting Place. Our studio facilities are based on the creative and practical nature of the courses, emphasising personal exploration and development, and recognising the value of peer learning.

The studios provide a flexible and vibrant working space where most of the teaching and learning takes place. Students are encouraged to see the studios as a professional workplace and they can also use the space to meet and work collaboratively on projects. Staff are located nearby, with offices just down the corridor.

The studio has a combination of:

  • Studio tables
  • Parallel motion drawing boards
  • Flip-top drawing boards
  • Ceiling projectors with full AV facilities
  • PC and Apple Mac desktops with up-to-date specialist software
  • Wi-Fi access
  • Printers with the ability to print from sizes A4 to A0
  • Sinks with hot and cold water for art work
  • Screens and exhibition areas for displaying work

Workshops
There are a number of practical workshops available to our students. On the ground floor of Broadcasting Place there is an impressive multi-functional workshop with substantial equipment supporting the following processes and materials:

  • Woodworking
  • Metalworking
  • Fabrication
  • Plastic forming
  • Vinyl moulding
  • Glass reinforced plastics
  • Welding
  • Plasma cutting
  • Model making
  • Lazer cutting (with Epilog Laser Cutter. Helix)
  • 3D printing
  • Sculptural processes

Students are provided with heath and safety induction training prior to using the machinery. Staff have offices within the workshop area where they are available to provide support and supervision as necessary to students.
