About Us

Part of the Faculty of Arts and Society at Leeds Metropolitan University, the Gallery & Studio Theatre have commissioned, produced, curated and promoted contemporary visual art and performance since 1991. We work with artists and performance makers engaged in developing new practice. With our spaces now closing at the end of October we are entering a new era. For now we are being creative, collaborating and programming other spaces but our shared ambition for the future is a permanant home in Leeds for these unique venues to continue our focus on the best of contemporary practice.

Both the Gallery and Studio Theatre support emerging practice and established practitioners working on the boundary of new forms. Extensive professional development programmes support young artists and education outreach projects maintain active involvement among schools and colleges in the appreciation of new work. All of our activities are open to the public and our policy is to make contemporary practice as accessible as possible to a wide audience through great programming, engagement projects and marketing initiatives.

We regularly collaborate at regional, national and international levels.

External funders include Arts Council England, Leeds City Council with project funding from other trusts and funding bodies.
