Aisha Pothan was keen to exploit all of the work placement opportunities on offer at Leeds Metropolitan and used a shadow placement module to gain experience with Leeds Building Society.
Human Resource Management masters student Aisha Pothan, originally from India, came to Leeds Metropolitan to study a professional Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) course and an MA. Aisha was keen to exploit all of the work placement opportunities on offer at Leeds Metropolitan, and quickly used a shadow placement module in her course to gain experience with Leeds Building Society's Learning & Development team.
It wasn't long before Aisha's hard work, enthusiasm and commitment paid off; after just four weeks of a shadow placement, she applied for and was successful in gaining a full-time position.
Offering advice to current and future students hoping to get on the employment ladder, Aisha said: "Most students live in the moment and I love that. But what worked for me was imagining life 15 days after I have submitted all my assignments. My advice is to prioritise in a way that gives you time to work towards the job you are looking for, alongside your education. Volunteer, join charity groups, do project work – the key is to get in the market, build relationships and networks. It worked for me."
