Catherine Sanderson
As well as being a Teacher Fellow, I work as a Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Health within the school of Health and Human Sciences. I am a biochemist/ physiologist by training and my subject areas of interest are the relationships between activity patterns and health, nutrition and health and adult obesity. I like hands-on action, so I do lots of voluntary work with weight management groups as I am also a qualified fitness instructor and help local authorities with obesity strategies.
I suppose you would expect a Teacher Fellow to say this, but I am passionate about ALT issues and in particular the factors that create and sustain the motivation in students to really engage in the learning process. I am also working on the use of ethical thinking and debates to develop critical reasoning skills and to excite students about Science and Health. During my TF tenure I want to help develop Leeds Met as a leader in pedagogic research and intend to publish in these and other areas.
I have personal passions too, and after family, football tops the list. As a born and bred Geordie my blood is naturally black and white rather than red!
