ALT Conference 2010

Welcome

The academic year got off to a great start with the University's annual Assessment, Learning and Teaching Conference which took place at Headingley Stadium on 7 - 8 September. Hundreds of academic staff spent the two days engaged in discussions around assessment, blended learning and innovative approaches to curriculum design. Keynote addresses by Professor Royce Sadler from Griffith University in Brisbane and from Professor Margaret Price from Oxford Brookes University offered new perspectives on feedback and much food for thought.

Led by the Assessment, Learning and Teaching team and supported by the Teacher Fellow network, the conference was a tremendous opportunity to share good practice and ideas from different disciplines and different perspectives.  A varied workshop programme was enjoyed by Leeds Met staff and by colleagues from other higher education institutions including Edge Hill University, the University of Hertfordshire and the University of the Arts in London. Awards were presented for exemplary use of technology enhanced learning and employability in the curriculum, and at the conference dinner the Teacher Fellow of the Year Award was presented to Jayne Mothersdale in recognition of her leadership of assessment, learning and teaching in the Faculty of Business & Law. Teacher Fellow Oliver Bray brought the conference to a highly entertaining finale, engaging delegates with a performance focusing on his individual take on teaching.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this memorable conference, the award winners, the workshop facilitators and the speakers, and many thanks to Georgi Sinclair and the Assessment, Learning and Teaching team for their imagination, enthusiasm and all the work that went into planning this wonderful event.
