Nomination for BBC Achievement Award

13 January 2011

The Northern Film School at Leeds Metropolitan University have been shortlisted for the BBC Achievement Award. The winner will be announced at the BBC Developing Talent Conference on 2 March at University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

The Northern Film School entered on the basis of their Royal Armouries partnership, Alumni Production Scheme and the Northern Arts Prize documentary.

Now in its third year, the Northern Film School have worked with the Royal Armouries on a creative partnership whereby students are commissioned to make films which depict issues core to the Royal Armouries' national collection of arms and armour. Students obtain valuable experience by working with live briefs within industry as well as adding value to the work of the museum itself.

The Northern Film School's Alumni Production Scheme gives graduates the opportunity to develop their professional portfolios. The Scheme is mentored and supported by a combination of industry professionals teaching within the School, along with creative practitioners in the UK, with resources available in house or hired on a project basis. One of the first projects for this scheme was the Northern Art Prize documentary. Leeds Metropolitan alumni, students and staff collaborated on a documentary about this year's shortlisted artists, which is now on display daily at the Leeds Art Gallery and has also been screened several times on Sky Arts.
