The Wilf Paish Scholarships
The Wilf Paish Scholarships
In January 2011, Leeds Met celebrated the life of one of athletics’ best known coaches Wilf Paish by setting up a scholarship programme in his memory.
Yorkshire-based Wilf, who sadly passed away at the start of 2010, was coach of javelin aces Tessa Sanderson and Mick Hill and trained more than 100 athletes who became Olympians.
The Wilf Paish Scholarships were launched to support talented athletes in need of financial help to help them through their university studies so that they may realise their full potential.
Since the launch of this programme, two students have been in receipt of awards to support them in their MSc in Sport Coaching degree and seven have benefitted from Wilf Paish Athletics Scholarships which assist talented track and field athletes to help them cover the costs of training.
MAKE A DONATION, MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Stephen Potter and Robbie Hill, who are both studying for a Masters degree in Sport Coaching, were the first recipients of the Wilf Paish Scholarships. They received the scholarship to fund their postgraduate studies, giving them access to some of the world’s best coaches through Wilf’s network and supporting their own coaching ambitions.
Robbie Hill, who currently coaches at West Park rugby club, added: “I’m delighted to have received the opportunity to continue my studies through the Wilf Paish scholarship and I’m keen to carry his legacy on as I aspire to reach his potential.”
