Our university is one that makes things happen. We are proud of our achievements and we think outside the box in order to make an impact.

We are committed to our customers

  • Our university was awarded the ‘Investors in People’ – 2011
  • Our 24/7 library was reaccredited for its Customer Service Excellence - 2011
  • We were rated the top university in the UK for language support, accommodation quality and learning spaces in the 2010 International Student Barometer.

We strive for excellence in research

Our University has achieved its best ever Research Assessment Exercise results in the most recent RAE. Sports-Related Studies is in the top 6 institutions in the country with research rated at the highest levels of 4* and 3*.

Student satisfaction is a priority

  • Our University has 9 teacher fellows and 7 prestigious Higher Education Academy (HEA) national teacher fellows.
  • Our most recent National Student Survey results indicate the overall satisfaction of our students at 77 per cent.

We  promote participation in sport

  • We are unbeaten in our annual Varsity contest against the University of Leeds during which the two compete in a variety of sports. The inaugural event was held in 2005 and Leeds Metropolitan have been crowned champions every year!
  • Our university is currently number 3 in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league table of all UK universities
  • 700 students participating in our weekly intramural leagues, and over 75 volunteers take part in the Carnegie Sport Volunteer Programme

won the Health Promotion and Wellbeing category 2010, Occupational Health Award

we won the award for Best Achievement in Local Authority and Education, 2010 SHP/IOSH Awards

received the Higher Education award in 2010 at the Teaching Public Health Network Health Honours Awards

We are a green university

  • Many of our buildings have achieved the sought after BREEAM excellent standard, including The Rose Bowl, Carnegie Village and Carnegie Pavilion.
  • Our Carnegie Village is built to the Passivhaus standard
  • 94% of our material from demolitions is recycled
  •  Our university has been awarded a ‘first’ by People and Planet every year since the Green League of universities was first published in 2007.

We are proud of our award winning buildings

Broadcasting Place was named the Best Tall Building in world 2010 by a council for global architects, best new building at the Leeds Architecture Awards and Best Commercial Development at the Yorkshire Property awards in the same year.

The Rose Bowl, home of our Business School, was awarded Best New Venue and Best development at the Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2009, and the design excellence at the Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2010. It also scooped the Design and Innovation award at the RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards 2010.

Carnegie Village, our on-campus student accommodation, was given the BREEAM Multi Residential Award 2010. It was also highly commended in the Green Gown Sustainable Construction awards 2010 and was highly commended in the new building category in the Leeds Architecture Awards 2010.

Carnegie Pavilion, our multi use building in partnership with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, won the Design Excellence Award at the Yorkshire Property Industry Awards in 2010. It was nominated as Building of the year in the Building Magazine awards 2011 and scooped best Commercial Property in the Local Authority Building Awards June 2011.
